Today we screwed the rails to the ties.

Inside (left) and outside (right) views of a rail join. Those are 10x32 5/16 stainless steel bolts. Works best to get a 12-pt socket to drive the bolt head (there's minimal clearance). You can readily grasp the inside lock nut with pliers or channel locks. In both pictures, you can clearly see the dark screw holding the rail to the tie.

In this picture, the upper 3/4s of track is screwed down. You can see dark screws holding the rail foot to the tie plate and tie. We used the square to make sure the ties were perpendicular to the rail.

Jon and Trevor align the ties and screw down the rail.

The track may not look much different from 2 days ago, but now the entire 30 feet of rails are screwed to the ties. All that remains is to ballast the track and do final leveling.
