The PB&JRR acquired it's first 7.5-inch gauge live-steam locomotive and rolling stock this 4th of July weekend! The entire train was purchased from Jeff Badger (behind the boxcar immediately below) of the Soquel-Pacific Coast Railway (SPCRy) in the Santa Cruz area. Here's some background story on the SPCRy (left column is about No. 3) as posted on the Bitter Creek Western RR site. With another three laps around Bitter Creek this morning, Jamie's gaining a little confidence at the controls. Many thanks to Kevin and Aaron (neither pictured) who took their life in their own hands and road with Jamie this morning, providing "situational awareness" while he had his head in the cab! The PB&JRR currently has No. 3 assigned to Bitter Creek duties for the foreseeable future.

Here's Jamie at the controls on learning day (July 3). Talk about information overload!

Here's a closeup of the caboose. The detail inside is very cool.

Oh yeah, gotta get water now and then!

A = bell
B = blower (stack)
C = throttle
D = whistle
E = injection steam
F = reverser
G = steam brake
H = fuel control (propane)
I = vacuum (unused)
J = water feed (tender)
K = water feed (saddles)
L = air brake
M = cab/headlight on/off
N = water glass (boiler level)
O = boiler pressure gauge
P = air brake pressure gauge
Inside the cab. Trevor and Matt were with Jamie on July 3rd and helped mark up this photo as our on-the-fly "owner's manual". Trevor and Matt each got a little time at the controls, too, over on a siding doing some "back and forth" practicing.

Just coming off the turntable (without the rolling stock).

The rolling stock: 2 flats, a gondola, and the caboose. The seats "pop off" the flat cars flush, making the flats totally useful for work chores.

The cats got fairly playful today, too.

Off to the 4th of July picnic with "rainbow" jello in flag formation.
