Alvin All-Star Railroad (AASRR)

Train Layout (HO) - 3/13/02

Each student is preparing one of the many background pictures that will be on the white divider between the two halves of the platform. In the picture at left, some of these drawings are already mounted on the platform. Each student has chosen a building to learn about and depict from their readings and study of Santa Maria history. The directed drawing technique involves an initial drawing on regular flat construction paper. Then a "cutout" of a significant feature is mounted on thin (1/4") styrofoam (grocery meat trays work well) and attached to the original drawing. This can be done a third time for added relief. The effect is dramatic (but doesn't show up well in the pictures). The students will also write a report about their building.
